In honesty, do we repent

When you write your sins do you feel purged

Are words shared a burden shed

Do you feel better

When the world knows you have strayed

From the safety of your anonymity

Being ‘truthful’ and ‘sincere’

Behind your mask of lies

To the one you profess to love

In honesty, do you repent

With pink flowers

And chocolates boxed and ribboned

While you hide your betrayal

With smiles and professions

Of unending love

To perpetuate your fallacy

In honesty, do you repent

And hope for absolution

Or in honesty, do you confess

And hope to be exposed
